Znojemsko Region
Nestled in South Moravia, Mikulov is a treasure trove of rich vineyards and centuries-old winemaking traditions. The Mikulov sub-region is one of the main wine-producing centres of the Czech Republic.
On the western edge of South Moravia, close to the Austrian border, lies Znojemsko, one of the Czech Republic’s most distinctive wine-growing sub-regions. Here, rolling vineyards, ancient wine cellars and centuries of winemaking tradition combine to create wines of remarkable freshness, aromatic intensity and character.

Welschriesling
Moravian classic
A historic Central European variety deeply rooted in Moravia. Fresh, vibrant, and mineral-driven, it produces wines from crisp dry whites to beautifully layered sweet styles, with delicate citrus, orchard fruit, and a distinctive almond finish.
Neuburger
Borderland rarity
A rare Austrian white crossing of Silvaner and Roter Veltliner, now found in meaningful concentration around Mikulov. Rich, rounded, and full-bodied, it produces quietly distinctive wines with gentle spice, ripe orchard fruit, and a character almost unknown beyond this Central European border zone.
Pálava
Czech original
A cross of Traminer and Müller-Thurgau bred in Mikulov itself - the region's most personal expression. Aromatic, opulent, and unmistakably Moravian, it produces wines from dry to noble sweet with exceptional depth.
Centred around the historic royal town of Znojmo, this is a region particularly celebrated for its white wines. Its position near the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands, together with the moderating influence of local rivers and the contrast between warm days and cooler nights, helps preserve the grapes’ aromatic complexity and natural acidity. The result is a distinctive style of wine that balances expressive fruit, refreshing structure and an appealing mineral or spicy character.
Znojemsko is particularly associated with three grape varieties: Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling and Grüner Veltliner. These varieties form the foundation of VOC Znojmo, established in 2009 as the Czech Republic’s first appellation system for wines defined by their regional origin and characteristic style. Beyond these leading varieties, Znojemsko also produces appealing wines from Müller-Thurgau, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Pálava and aromatic Muscat varieties. Although white wines dominate the region’s reputation, red varieties including Saint Laurent, Blaufränkisch and Pinot Noir also contribute to its diversity.
The character of Znojemsko is shaped by more than its grape varieties. A varied landscape and diverse soils, together with the region’s climatic conditions, provide winemakers with opportunities to create wines with distinct expressions of place. Cooler air from the nearby highlands and pronounced day-to-night temperature differences during the growing season help maintain freshness while allowing aromatic compounds to develop.
Winemaking heritage remains deeply embedded in the region’s identity. Historic cellars and traditional wine villages sit alongside modern wineries embracing precision, careful vineyard management and contemporary winemaking techniques. The VOC Znojmo designation further reinforces the importance of origin, linking selected wines to the region’s characteristic varieties and style.
