Slovácko Region

Stretching along Moravia's eastern border with Slovakia, Slovácko is the largest of the Moravian wine subregions — a land of folk traditions, wine cellars carved into the hillsides, and a remarkably varied mix of soils and styles.

Slovácko is Moravia's largest and most easterly subregion, stretching along the Slovak border from Uherské Hradiště down to Strážnice and Hodonín. Its varied soils, from loess to heavier clay, support a broad mix of styles, and the region is closely tied to the folk traditions of the area, including its open wine cellars and traditional folklore music at harvest festivals. Moravský Muškát (Moravian Muscat), a domestic aromatic crossing bred for its floral, grapey character, is something of a local specialty here, alongside solid plantings of Ryzlink vlašský (Welschriesling), Veltlínské zelené (Grüner Veltliner), and Frankovka (Blaufränkisch).

Slovácko is Moravia's easternmost wine region - diverse, traditional, and deeply tied to folk custom.

Signature varieties

Welschriesling

Moravian classic

A historic Central European variety deeply rooted in Moravia. Fresh, vibrant, and mineral-driven, it produces wines from crisp dry whites to beautifully layered sweet styles, with delicate citrus, orchard fruit, and a distinctive almond finish.

Grüner Veltliner

Regional favorite

A versatile white variety producing peppery, medium-bodied wines with notes of white pepper, citrus, and stone fruit. In Slovácko it tends to show a slightly riper, rounder profile than in cooler Moravian subregions, making it an approachable, everyday style as well as a base for more structured examples.

Moravian Muscat

local aromiatic legend

A Czech-bred aromatic crossing and something of a local signature in Slovácko. It produces intensely floral, grapey wines with notes of elderflower and rose, usually made off-dry to balance its natural aromatics — a distinctive, easily recognisable style that sets the region apart from the rest of Moravia.
